There are two types: the parallel plane type, in which the beam does not refract, and the wedge substrate type, in which the backside reflection has less effect on ghosts and interference.

* When linearly polarized light such as laser light is used, the reflectivity and transmittance vary depending on the polarization direction.
* When strictly adjusting the branching ratio, tilt the polarization azimuth to 45 degrees or use circularly polarized light.
* Due to the effect of the refractive index and thickness of the substrate, the optical path of the transmitted light is translated by several millimeters relative to the incident light. (In the case of the wedge type, the beam polarization angle of about 30 minutes is added to the translation of the optical path.) * * The transmittance wavelength characteristic changes when used at an incident angle other than 45 degrees.
* The phase difference of the incident light is not stored in transmitted light or reflected light.
* Use a wave plate to compensate for the phase difference.
